Those of us who are not computer programmers may not use the right words
to describe our question.  We are happy to have better algorithms. 
Before I saw your note, I would have said that selecting a better
algorithm is a kind of "optimization trick," in the sense that I'm open
to any method of designing a simulation that makes it more efficient. 
The problem is finding a good algorithm, really, and we wonder how to do
that.

Just to be clear: Is the redesign of the HeatSpace in the java
speedup--which I used to speedup the objc heatbugs--a change of
algorithm or a coding trick?  I view it as a useful thing, no matter how
you categorize it.
