So you have the program called 'xterm' on your machine? Or is it under
a different name? What happens if you boot up a terminal (through the
KDE console) and type 'xterm'. Do you get a new xterm window?

This doesn't sound like an incompatibility since it works when you get
it running. You're just having trouble launching it from ratpoison.
