If somebody can answer Ben's questions, then we can probably make whatever 
changes are appropriate.

Anyway the biggest part of Lena's problem can be fixed using the method I 
suggested (but I think she
will have to do a bit of manual fixup - I think pspp is behaving as intended - 
but the generator of 
these files is buggy).

One improvement we could make: In GET DATA we insist that the /FILE subcommand 
appears immediately
after the /TYPE subcommand.  But the provided file has it further down.  We 
could be a little more
relaxed about this requirement.
