looks like the only fix is a gtkrc modification.  Looks like we are stuck  
with it; the bug has been triaged so it should get sorted at some point.   
No-one seems to have narrowed down the trigger conditions.
There is a 'fix' suggested for emacs which consists of redirecting STDERR  
to /dev/null in the startup script.  I think I prefer the Murrine error!

I've updated the FAQ with this information.
