Sorry, it's being removed from Fedora Core (missing from the current 
test releases of Fedora Core 4), mainly I think because the distribution 
is now 4 CDs and they were looking for applications that are not widely 
used that could be moved to Fedora Extras. I have volunteered to 
maintain octave and related packages. If I understand correctly, Extras 
will be enabled by default in FC 4, so while you won't get octave in a 
CD installation of FC, it will be very easy to install a la Debian. This 
really is a good thing because you'll be able to stay more current with 
new releases without building your own, and the maintainer will be 
(hopefully) more familiar with octave and not apply wierd unnecessary 
patches to the code, and we won't have weekly bug reports sent in by 
people solving eigenvalue problems. Furthermore, the default FC version 
never came with FFTW, which it will now (I want to do ATLAS also, but 
I'm not promising it yet).
