Markus,

Your guesses are not correct. My 2 systems are very similar and for the same
version of Octave they have in the past produced identical results for make
check. The main purpose of my second system is for backup. Therefore I make
sure that it is in sync with my primary system. Now it is not in sync due to
the multiple errors produced by gcc 11.

Skipped tests which occur on only one of two identically configured systems,
except for the version of system software, are errors.

There are various reasons for the errors but they best addressed by the owners
of the functions. It is unlikely that the gcc owners will accept any of these
incompatibilities as errors. So, it is up to Octave developers to adapt.

Also, the same Java-1.8.0 and associated packages is installed on both
systems.
