@jwe in comment #20: That was an absolutely perfect fix! Here are the test
results from applying interp-shutdown-reorder-diffs-2.txt:


$ /usr/bin/time --verbose octave mytest.m 
        Command being timed: "octave mytest.m"
        {{{ SNIP }}}
        Exit status: 0



$ /usr/bin/time --verbose octave tst_segfault2.m 
        Command being timed: "octave tst_segfault2.m"
        {{{ SNIP }}}
        Exit status: 0



$ /usr/bin/time --verbose octave tst_spy.m 
        Command being timed: "octave tst_spy.m"
        {{{ SNIP }}}
        Exit status: 0
