There will be a native solution in 1.7:

    repl -filter mhl.replywithoutbody -convertargs text/html '' -convertargs 
text/plain ''

That's a mouthful, hence the shell functions in docs/contrib/replaliases.
They also give control over those switches.  It'd be great if others
tried this out and gave feedback.  Though until it gets into a release,
that requires building from master.

Yes, those files tend to fall out of date.  And some of the contents
might already be in the man pages.
