The 3 is something that this evince version 2.32.0 generates. I didn't create 
this stuff, but the reason for the old version is probably that this is the
version we have used previously.

I've attached the patches. I should say that we have given up this
approach for now, returning to LilyPond's GUB builder, as we couldn't
get through the link stage when the pdf backend was invoked statically
from the evince code. But I hope that the files at
http://denemo.org/~jjbenham/mxe/src/
might be useful to the mxe as there are a number of libraries built
which are not in mxe already (the fluidsynth synthesizer library and
others).
