IIRC the original `bytes/sec' feature goes back to the Age of Giants,
while `KB/sec' was a later variation by someone like VH:
i've never seen the point of either & would probably suppress them, if able;
certainly, allowing suppression would help blind users
avoid having to indulge in gymnastics with their screen-readers.
