well, perhaps during development we can debate whether it's better to use
the slang function or a ~100 line fallback built from more standard curses
functions.
right now, I'm not really interested (unless you're able to test all
configurations on HP-UX 10.x or on NeXT 4.x - those ports are the only
trouble spots that I'm concerned about).
