Hmm.  You should have a couple of files in your installation:
"md5.pyc" and "md5.pyo".

On this machine (10.5.6), they are here:

/System/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.5/lib/python2.5/md5.pyc
/System/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.5/lib/python2.5/md5.pyo

None of the other Python scripts use the md5 library, so that's
probably why, for example, convert-ly works for you.
