You apparently do not yet comprehend amount of work that is sometimes
required maintaining large bodies of code with numerous external
dependencies, especially if said code must integrate with other
products, some of which may only be available in binary form.

For simple projects "upgrade to the latest version of gcc" is a
fine advice, but you should think twice before giving this advice
to e.g. a medical device manufacturer.

Please tone down your responses, or some people will think you an
arrogant newbie. I assure you that after you've had 10 years of
experience maintaining complex software, you would agree with what
I just said.
