I'm a bit surprised by this discussion.

I was first surprised by John Culleton saying
"Most of us don't use sections in the PROCEDURE
DIVISION any more, if we ever did."
So I wanted to express my adverse opinion.

Now I am surprised at the hostile tone in the post of Marcello Marsile.
I think there is some lack of understanding here.

@Marcello
I think Vince was referring to John Culleton talking about limited programming practice

Anyway...
Time to move on and close this thread?

I love you all dinosaurs (me included)

@vbcoen.
Hello,
You probably are right.
My 35 years experience in cobol programming is probably insufficient (IMB mainframes, HONEYWELL mainframes, etc.)
Have you some free time to teach me something?

Marcello Marsile

This will be my last post on topic (which IMO should have never been started).
OC IS open source.
That means let everyone do as he preferes (GPL or any such license, of course).
OC handles sections. Anyone of us is free to use them or not. Why remove this option from OC?
Marcello Marsile

To the best of my knowledge it is NOT proposed to do away with them.

The poster just gave his option based on limited usage of programming in Cobol!
