with all due respect mon capitaine, i beg to differ - this is the most
appropriate list to discuss these third-party package managers and their
repositories; because most every distro distributes those programs - it is well
beyond a GNU-only issue - this general topic began on this mailing list in 2016

according to the gnu-prog-discuss mailing list topic, guix is the only FSDG
distro, whos team members may participate - whatever conclusions are reached
would affect all FSDG distros, so we should have a voice in the discussion -
that is precise the purpose of this mailing list

gnutoo brought up docker; because he found a potential solution for it - to
announce that on this mailing list is exactly what we hope all FSDG distro devs
would do - im quite sure that he has shared everything he knows about it in this
thread - not much is known of any of these; because so few people care to
address the issue - that is evident from the fact that the discussion began in
2016 and we are no closer to a solution for any of these today

each of them will take time and attention - i agree that it is reasonable to
handle one at a time - cargo definitely needs discussion - that one is probably
going to be the most troublesome of all; but this is the first i know of anyone
discussing freedom concerns about cargo - i know that the hyperbola team has
excluded it on principle; but there has been no public discussion that i am
aware of
