[1] dev(el)o(pment line)---not to be confused with "line of
    development"[tm], which sounds really devo[2], as in "boy, do we
    support the Waterfall Model well!"---Sorry, Larry.

[2] d-evo(lution)---"Stop making sense".  ObRef Talking Heads.

[3] Devo---a somewhat popular alternative format band of the '80s.
    Slogan was "We are not men---we are Devo!" or some such.  I don't
    even remember what their hits were....

I dunno what it means to Miles or Tom, but to me it means "hack as
hard as you can, but don't lose your sense of humor."
