Hi there
Many thanks for your reply. In answer to your questions:
1) gnokii --identify twice (or any number of times) works correctly and
identifies the phone as expected.
2) It doesn't matter in which order gnokii --identify and smsd are run.
Always gnokii --identify works and smsd times out after three attempts
to contact the phone
3) There are other processes running before I run smsd but none of them
to do with gnokii/smsd.
4) The details given from lsusb -vvv for the phone does not change
before/after either command is run.
I am running the following versions:
smsd - version 1.4.4 from gnokii 0.6.28.
For something to try, I have downloaded the latest source from the 'git'
repository. I am however having link problems with this when the following
command is run in the gnokii/gnokii directory:
../libtool --tag=CC --mode=link gcc -I../include -g -O2 -Wall
-Wno-pointer-sign -fvisibility=hidden -fno-strict-aliasing
-o gnokii gnokii-gnokii.o gnokii-gnokii-calendar.o gnokii-gnokii-dial.o
gnokii-gnokii-file.o gnokii-gnokii-logo.o gnokii-gnokii-mms.o
gnokii-gnokii-monitor.o gnokii-gnokii-other.o
gnokii-gnokii-phonebook.o gnokii-gnokii-profile.o
gnokii-gnokii-ringtone.o gnokii-gnokii-security.o gnokii-gnokii-settings.o
gnokii-gnokii-sms.o gnokii-gnokii-todo.o gnokii-gnokii-utils.o
gnokii-gnokii-wap.o ../common/libgnokii.la -lreadline -lncurses
../getopt/libgetopt.a
I get the errors:
../libtool: ../libtool: 465: tr: not found
../libtool: ../libtool: 1: tr: not found
../libtool: ../libtool: 1: tr: not found
../libtool: ../libtool: 1: tr: not found

../libtool: eval: 1: -Wl,--rpath: not found
make[1]: *** [gnokii] Error 127
make[1]: Leaving directory `/opt/gnokii/gnokii'
make: *** [all-recursive] Error 1
Interestingly, this command works fine in the gnokii-0.6.28/gnokii directory.
Again, any further information or suggestions would be much appreciated!
Many thanks,
