PFR fonts had hints. These are automatically generated from the outlines
when the font is converted to the format (using proprietary Bitstream
code anyway), and are essential to "good" rendering as well..

What's hard to determine is wether the patent covers hinting proper
or the simple glyph decoding algorithm.. I believe the former but I'm
not sure about this just yet..

If you have the time to take a deep look at the patent, maybe you could
enlighten us with more details..
