They are not very different. They only differ by a fraction of one
percent. Running temacs under GDB and putting a breakpoint on Fload
(as Eli suggested) just does not seem to work for me. After byte-run
is loaded, pure_bytes_used is 76028 for me, which is less than the
79800 posted by Eli at the same point in temacs. After that `c' in
GDB just continues, apparently completely ignoring the breakpoint on
Fload.
After bootstrapping, my pure-bytes-used is 1200904, which is
apparently less than the 1216528 reported by Eli. Both numbers are
larger than BASE_PURESIZE used to be before it got increased from
1200000 to 1205000. After that increase I no longer get the overflow
warning.
I have a few tiny uninstalled changes, but if these make a difference,
the fudge factor would really be to small.
