This is somewhat already done with GToolKit which relies on GNUstep-base
library.

But I understand easily that using gtk+ for gnustep-gui backend is not
appreciated very much in GNUstep community. Still, would not that be
possible to allow using gtk+ widgets/components inside AppKit? The KDE
team has recently shown a technology called XParts (a variant of KParts)
that allows to embed toolkit neutral components. Practically, it means
that Konqueror (KDE filemanager) can use Mozilla's GTK-based html
renderer.
For GNUstep, this could mean being able to write a web browser quite
rapidly. The other option, in this case, is to make a version XPToolkit
directly based on AppKit (a much bigger task).
