Use speex, if you want to encode speech with a patent unencumbered
algorithm. Speex (AFAIK) use algorithms for which patents have expired
or are old enough. I have listened to speex encoded speeches, they are
excellent. IMHO, ham community should not embrace AMBE (as has been
done in some of the digital voice projects).
