Text-based form does not display

I'm running ddd 3.3.11 on Red Hat Linux 3.2.3-34. It's actually Red Hat Enterprise Server 3. I'm trying to debug an application built using VDE from Viking Software. This is a text-based form building toolkit. I run the C++ application that uses the Viking software and when it tries to invoke Viking the program hangs. It should display a text-based UI that allows data entry. I am able to debug other text-based applications without a problem. I am also able to debug just using gdb. Any help appreciated.
