please don't take this the wrong way, but i had already tried to go
through the javamail code that was there and felt that it would be
quicker just to reimplement from scratch than to work through what was
and wasn't there already. i agree with you about the interfaces but i
thought that for the purposes of having a relatively homogenous style
and level of documentation it was best to rewrite them too.

i had previously attempted to contact joey as i believed him to be
responsible, but received no answer. as far as i am concerned authorship
is unimportant, and i am happy to release copyright to the fsf and
divest myself of any interest or original authorship rights to the code.
i in no way intend to compete with anyone, all i wanted was to get it
all up and running. please accept my apologies if you feel snubbed in
any way.
