Dang! this doesn't make any difference! :-( Tuning the initial size of
the hash-table does help. Adding a non-looping version of
sqlite:execute reduced the time by 1sec.

Any way, the current timings are:

scheme program:
        6.65s user 0.48s system 69% cpu


perl script:
        3.99s user 0.47s system 73% cpu
