Hi Tom, Tony,

(Both of you wrote about numdiff today. Coincidence?)

Are there efforts underway to imbed numerical differerence capability --
e.g., as in GNU's numdiff procedure -- in the basic diff procedure?

No. The purpose of diff is to be a good implementation of standard Unix
line-by-line diff. It can't become "diff anything at all".

Now, including a numerical-difference program in the diffutils package
is another matter. That sounds useful to me. If there was active
development going on of diffutils, it could be considered.
Unfortunately there isn't, right now. I hope that situation changes.

And numdiff is not a GNU package, by the way.

Sorry not to be able to jump on the suggestion ...

Best,
Karl (not the diffutils maintainer or anyone else official :)
