Also Jörg Schilling's star supports ACLs, but again in a non-standard
way I think.

I'm under the impression that the patches by Andreas Grünbacher at
http://acl.bestbits.at/ have already been accepted into 2.5.
The reason I'm asking is because I have a backup program (see
http://www.nongnu.org/duplicity/) that writes data in gnu-tar format
volumes. I'd like to continue using gnutar format, but I'd also like
to support ACLs by the time standard GNU/Linux distributions like
redhat or debian do.
The way I see it there are three steps:
1) The GNU-tar people write some document describing the new format.
2) Various libraries in various languages get written to support the
new format.
3) People like me use the new libraries.
This process might take a while, so I thought I might as bother the
tar people now and find out if something like 1) is planned. Thanks
for any information.
