In fact, I want several things:
1) A chatting facility, like IRC channels (already implemented,
although a few improvements can still be made).
2) A conferencing utility: an extension of 1 with voice (and maybe video).
This is what would be really useful for me. Currently, it is already
possible to use 1 in combination with Skype (for instance),
but I would like something free and a bit more automatic.
It seems that GNU gatekeepter might help us, but this needs checking.
3) A collaborative authoring facility, like the one you have in mind.
4) Configurable types of geometry: a professor which is connected
with several students, for instance. Henri and others have been
doing some work on that and recently wrote an article.
Besides, we need a file system which is better adapted to
TeXmacs documents and maybe even some kind of P2P network.
I will not do all this soon, but this shows my plans for the next years
concerning web facilities for TeXmacs. I definitely think that we should
integrate more and more web tools. I don't know how much previous work
can be reused. For the moment, I opted for a very simple but modular
server/client model which may evolve into a server-network/client model.
It should be easy to incorporate exiting tools at the server side in
a very loose way. In particular, we may use existing voice IP software
or Wiki implementations, just by setting up the right correspondance.

I do plan to have a rudimentary version control system soon at the server side.
This is the other main thing I really need for myself (in particular for
the TeXmacs documentation).
