I'm still waiting for my workstation to return from VA research. (Yes,
since October it is
out of service.) So I've not bothered with Redhat 5.2 on my other
machines for fear of rendering them inoperable.

I heard mention from one person (anonymity retained to protect innocent)
that the version of tcl/tk in Redhat 5.2, which is 8.1 something, causes
a runtime error in swarm apps. He traced it to init.tcl. I hear from
that reliable source that if you uninstall the tcl and tk from RH5.2 and
then install the ones on thesir site from redhat 5.1, then the problems
go away. But I've not seen it myself, but it seems we ought to be
cautious about RH 5.2

I've asked another user (also anonymous) to recompile the swarm rpms on
his redhat 5.2 system to find out if that solves the problem.

In the meantime, I will do some reading and perhaps bite the bullet and
get rh5.2.
