install question... |

Hi,
I'm still chipping away at the install. I had to do a full install, all
the way from gzip. I installed binutil, gcc, gdb, sed, make... but have
been having X problems. Glen Ropella suggested I install the reminding
"parts" in this order: xpm, tcl, tk, blt, libtclobjc. I've been having
a time getting xpm installed, it deals with how X is set up on our box.
So, today, on a whim I jumped ahead of xpm and installed tcl. I tested
the install and all the tests worked except for the "socket.test". I
think that the socket test failed since Im installing the stuff on a
Mac, using a emulator to a HPUX 9.0.3. So, I figured it must have
something to do with the fact that Im not on the "official" unix box.
Is this a problem? Will it come back to haunt me? Does TCL depend on
XPM, or was that just a suggested install order? And does anyone know
what the "socket.test" tests for, and should I be concerned? Or, am I
right about my assumption?
Thanks,
Brad.
