Thanx. There was a problem in the gcc installation. I could compile all 
the applications without any error, but when I try to run any of the 
applications, it gives the error :
  Floating point exception
and terminates. I have installed the swarm and the apps as follows :
 /usr --- /swarm --- bin
                 --- heatbugs
                 --- include
                 --- lib
                 --- market
                 --- mousetrap
                 --- src
                 --- template
I had modified the SWARM varible in the applications directories.
