Alex and fellow GIS folks...

I'm happy to see the big response from GIS/SWARM users! :-)
I won't repeat what Matt, Ned, and Catherine have said since
I agree.

Getting some spatial analysis tools into swarm libraries would
be very beneficial. I imagine getting Fragstats into Swarm will
not be that big of a problem (it's well written, well commented,
and well documented...and free :-)   and provides a lot of
patch statistics. Add some Fourier and wavelet stuff and I think
we will have a good base set of tools.

As for GIS....IMHO, I would stick with raster GIS for getting
started on this (Arc/Info GRID and IDRISI for the most part).
Perhaps to be able to read/write these 2 formats would be
a good first step.

Should we get a splinter session going at Swarmfest? Or is that
already the plan and I haven't been paying attention?

I would also like to see a list of all potential swarm/gis users
and what their particular interests are (and their progress
so far).  Are you collecting this, Alex?
