Et voilĂ ... the new bug tracking of Savannah is in place and as far as I can see it works ok. I have just made a couple of test though and you should have received the first Savannah bug (bug #7) email notification.

Nice job.

Thanks!

Again play with it and if you know of other projects on Savannah that are badly missing a bug tracker then may be you can forward them this message and tell them to beta-test the bug tracker (they must activate the service first in Project Admin -> Edit Public Info)

Is it posible to import bug databases from other systems? I think the most
frequently asked question will be "can I import my gnats bugs database into
Savannah?".

I haven't used GNATS for sometime now so I don't remember what the GNATS *export* format looks like. But if it is a CSV file format or similar then we should be able to do something with it.

I see the import as a 2 phases job:

a) the project team will first have to configure a set of bug fields that is identical to the one they use in GNATS (including the set of pre-defined values they use for each field)

b) Given the CSV output and the GNATS -> Savannah field mapping we should be able to generate SQL statement that directly insert records in the bug database.

The only problem I see is that it will be impossible to preserve the Bug ID from one system to another because the Savannah BTS uses global bug id counter for all projects (not one per project).

Do you have (or know of) a sample GNAT project at hand that we could use as a test?
