I agree with you (I'm finding git fits much better with my working
than monotone did, though there are certainly issues with git, too).

However, I think speed matters too (a little to my surprise---monotone
seemed fine, I guess compared with svk and GNU Arch (so not really
tough competition)).

But git's combination of speed and the knowledge that things can
easily (and quickly) be discarded if they don't work out really pays
off, IMHO.
