This won't work reliably for packages where the version is a checksum (eg. 
openscenegraph, vmime) We could try to flag (or detect) these and bypass the 
sort, or simply not worry about it and rely on the fact that a future update 
will be picked up. We could also mirror these repos and use Volker's 
beautify_git_hash [1] to serialise the commits ;)
