You should be able to do that using the -restrictions option, e.g.

        lynx -restrictions=dired_support

I tried it as an alias, and also as an argument, but could still browse

ok (should have tried that...).

I think you'd have to build lynx without dired support.
The restriction seems to only prevent them from using the file menu.
