Stuart,Steps 1 and 2 of the FAQ " How can I add a completely new package..." use ".tar.gz" as their example filenames. I was trying to follow the steps in the FAQ as exactly as possible.
I later noticed that the specfile template had .bz2 but was content to stick with .gz since I already have moved that file around.
Unfortunately, I'm enough of a newbie to package management that I don't know what is going on or what to expect. I can follow directions well however, provided the outcome matches the directions.
I have moved on a bit with the help from Peter and Vadim. You'll see further questions on the list.
I will try to send parted to the list when I am done with my work. I may need instruction as to the best way to do this, when I get to it.
Thanks for you attention. Jim Stuart Hughes wrote:
Hi James, Hopefully you've been able to move on with the help from Peter/Vadim. Can you tell me where (in the FAQ) or why you thought you could only have .tgz files? You can have either and also most styles are supported (.tar.gz .tgz .tar.bz2 etc). You can also have compressed patches, but generally I prefer those uncompressed (so they can be reviewed easier and it discourages monster patches). I unpacked it so I could later tar it to .gz as is expected by the instructions in the FAQ.
