As it occured later to me and as Stephan confirmed in a private email
he indeed need to use tables in figures.
The solution is use @Diag instead of @Fig. It's more featureful and
well structured. The low-level PostScript hackery is confined to
where it belongs to, so you should not encounter nasty surprises like
this one with "in".
