I agree: even if code is posted to the sources or help octave lists,
it is not so easy to find them later.  I noted a similar problem for
finding emacs lisp files a while ago: people now post their source
files on home pages or to a news group.  My solution was to create a
simple web page pointing to each elisp file that I knew about.  (This
can be viewed at http://www.anc.ed.ac.uk/~stephen/emacs/ell.html) I
would be happy to maintain a similar list for Octave files if people
think it would be worth having ... just send me entries and I will
start to build the list up.
