For me anyway, any time saved in downloading a slightly smaller
file is offset by the time wasted trying to remember the xz
equivalent of tar xzvf.
Yeah, i had the same reaction when .xz tarballs started popping up. But
there is good news. GNU tar autodetects the compression scheme, so you
can drop the (gzip-only) āzā and it will DTRT for .gz, .bz2, .xz, ...
