I'm not an expert on I18N, but I believe this would work:
fix the strings in the source
make sure the fixed strings are replaced in each of the po/xx.po
files, so the other languages will pick up the change
remove or rename po/gnubg.pot
run make, this reconstructs po/gnubg.pot
I think Oystein or Joern may know more exactly.
