1) How hard would it be to alter the GNUBG code to have it play DMP?
I assume you mean specialized nets which care only about wins, and
ignore gammons and such. Not hard, but GNNUbg is not a ideal development
environment, as it's scripting leave a lot to be desired.
2) How long would the training take (assume a 1 GHz machine running
around the clock)?
2-3 month's would be my estimate (coding time not included).
3) Could an amateur with moderate knowledge of C and a LINUX box have a
reasonable chance of pulling this off?
Depends. I found that developing a net is tricky. If you follow the
guidelines in my page you will get there - but there might be better
ways. This is what worked for me best until now.
