Midi-file

I'm running lilypond-1.4.0 under i386-RH7.1

I can't produce a midi-file. I have tried with thw following program:

\midi { \tempo 4=72}

\score {
  \notes {
    \time 3/4
    \clef bass
    c2 e4 g2.
    f4 e d c2.
  }
  \paper { }
}

I have tried to compile with with both lilypond -m and ly2dvi -m but no
midi-file is created.
