The player sometimes skips the first frame when playing SWF files. You could try to start the file with an empty frame, that would only increase the filesize very slightly.
It's not that I tested png2swf and if I only supply one png file it complains that no pngs have been provided. There's some serious problems with parsing the argument list. For instance you can't switch the order of -o and -r or it will think the output file is suppose to be a png. Sometimes I get verbose with -v and sometimes not.
I am very rusty or I may have fixed it by now. But ultimately if I were to fix it I would probably rewrite the argument handling routines from scratch.
