This note was from a while ago, but just today I looked again at SGT and it has a couple of terriffic features. One is that, after the graph comes up, it can open a tree where you can edit the graph's features interactively. Make the ticks on the lines point in our out, change labels, etc. One of the major source of frustration I have with all ploting sofware so far is that you can't interactively "spruce up" a picture. (In Windows, I got addicted to a plotter called Axum, which became S+).

Anyway, I'm looking at SGT and wondered if anybody (including Buck) has tried it out with a swarm program. Can we see a program?

My example of a Swarm program using PtPlot is called JelFarol and it is in the swarm ftp already. Please regard that as my ante into this poker game.

FYI,

For those interested in java-based scientific plotting packages, I suggest
checking out NOAA-EPIC's Scientific Graphics Toolkit
(http://www.epic.noaa.gov/java/sgt/index.html). Plotting capabilities
(contours, line graphs, vector plots, etc. but not, I think, histograms)
look pretty good. The package consists of a set of java classes for
creating plots. I just found the site, so I haven't had a chance to check
out its ease-of-use.

[PS--Thanks to Ken Cline and Marcus for help with my Colormap/Zoomraster
question]

Buck
