        Hi Marcus and all,

with the help of a student of mine, Matteo Morini <address@hidden>, I'm point our the following remarks aboout kaffe's rpms.

In Mandrake 7.0 javaswarm doesn't work with the original kaffe-1.0.5-3mdk; it is necessaty to replace it with kaffe-1.0.5-6 from Transvirtual (www.transvirtual.com).

In RedHat 6.0/6.1 javaswarm doesn't work with the original kaffe-1.0.5-3; newly, it is necessaty to replace it with kaffe-1.0.5-6 of Transvirtual (www.transvirtual.com).

In Mandrake 7.0 it is necessary to 'downgrade' blt from the original blt-2.4i-8mdk to the RedHat 6.1 blt-2.4g-4. This downgrading is necessary to have heatbugs and jheatbugs working properly when we place the label of a bug into the graph function in the observer probe.

        Yours, Pietro

Perhaps you don't have the build from Transvirtual?
And really, the RPMS are intended for a specific distribution: Redhat 6.1.
If you have something else, the conservative path is a source build.

Summary : A free virtual machine to run Java(tm) code
Description :
This is Kaffe, a virtual machine designed to execute Java bytecode.
This machine can be configured in two modes. In one mode it operates as
a pure bytecode interpreter (not unlike Javasoft's machine); in the second
mode if performs "just-in-time" code conversion from the abstract code to
the host machine's native code. This will ultimately allow execution of
Java code at the same speed as standard compiled code but while maintaining
the advantages and flexibility of code independence.
