Well, it isn't working right for me.
I checked out and compiled the latest cvs sources.
At first, the command
split 4 1
didn't seem to do anything, but then ratpoison was behaving oddly.
My emacs frame was off the screen, I got a message saying there was a
raise request from the minibuffer, and new windows would open behind
the current one.

Did anybody else have any problems?
