You can use bridgeutils or openvswitch for connecting vms. Another solution is using tuntap tunnels.

This is to set up a test situation where one of the VMs is a traffic generator and other will be the consumer. The MAC addresses of traffic will not mach that of the VM's ports. Both VMs need to be in promiscus mode. Is this possible in virtual environment?
