Oops, you're right.  It happens on master too.
     
     By the way, I always have a hard time figuring out how to delete
     a variable.  The popup menu option "Clear" isn't very well named,
     in my opinion.

I tend to agree. Spss uses that word, so it has been duly inherited
from there.
