error.  But I was unable to reproduce this.

3. It seg faults if you press Del in a data cell of a string variable
whose width is greater than 8.

4. (this happens on master too) By manually entering a string in the
width column on the var sheet, it is possible to fool the gui
into accepting a string length > 2^15 .   A subsequent assertion
failure inevitably occurs.
