If you want to build it from source, I expect the easiest way is to do an "apt-get build-dep" which should download and install all dependencies.

So I guess it's time to build from source.  I've had problems with that before because of all the dependencies.

I am running the version of pan in 14.04. It looks to me like it
continues to be a non-SSL build.
